What's New for 2008
December 23, 2008
Everyone at at Slim's Cabins sends you best wishes for a happy holiday season
and a New Year filled with warmth and abundance...not to mention good fishing.
It is with heartfelt gratitude that we say a big "Thanks" to all
of our guests that have supported us over the years. 2008 brought
about a lot of changes with the acquistion of Russell's Camps to our business.
A big thank you to Jim and Richard Russell for your help and guidance for making
the transition as smooth as possible.
Merry Christmas to all from the Woods family!

Sunrise 8:03 am, temp -31 c, no wind at all, off the deck of the main lodge. I tromped through the snow with the dogs taking the most icredible shots in the crisp air until the camera froze. Sandi.

Here are some great shots the Borisenko family sent in of their trip to Slim's Cabins in July with their guide Lars.

Fall 2008

We heard Jim was going out to the lake to work.....then we get these picutres from his buddy Garry. Looks like hard work Dad.

Sept 4, 2008
Chris Reed, Lincoln NE making the most of his last few minutes on the Churchill River as he trolls to the boat launch. For 25 years Chris and his father Ivan Reed have been coming to Slim's Cabins. Thanks guys we'll see you next year.

We were greeted this morning to heavy fog that blanketed the camp and river. As you can tell by the pictures you couldn't see across the bay. I was mesmerised by the magical mist by the time I was done my morning tea the fog disappeared and it was time to get back to work.

September 3, 2008
After a week of cool temperatures today was a welcome change, felt like summer again. A perfect end to a perfect day was this sunset.

August 30, 2008

This is a sad day, the day Shirley and Preston Phillips head back to Nebraska. Just like the turning of the leaves it signals the end of summer. We will wait in anticipation of their arrival next spring.

August 29 - September 1, 2008

Rod and Sharon Alexander, Kamuchawie Lake. Wow! What a way to spend your long weekend.

August 13, 2008

August 12-17, 2008

Here is Slim Woods' great grandson Conner learning how to drive a boat at Tomahawk Lake this summer. Well done Conner! I thought it only fitting to put up a picture of Slim driving a boat. Although these two didn't get to know one another before Slim's passing they share many similarities.

August 16, 2008

This picture was taken by Gord Fleming June 15, 2008 at Jackpine Lake Falls. Two weeks later the lake burned in a forest fire. He thought maybe the face was an omen....others think he was the protector.

August 16, 2008

Photos courtesy of Brad Starry, Fargo ND from his 1st trip to Hunting Lake in June 2008. We are anxiously awaiting pictures from his second trip.

The Ronning Family from St. Louis SK. What a family of Anglers. Notice Lars isn't in any of the pictures.....that's because he's guiding his family not fishing at least thats what his story is.... We could probably add another page just for all the Pike Lars has caught and released this summer over 15lbs. Way to Ronnings!

June 25, 2008

Heading out for a full day of "work".....looks like fun.

June 21, 2008
Here is a picture taken by Lars on June 21, 2008 heading south approx. 34 km from Slim's. He was turned back until the next day due to the fire. This was the fire on the first day.

Summer Solstice the longest day of the year. This was the sunset from the main lodge at 10:45 pm It's too bad there was so much smoke the air that night or it would have been much brighter.

June 15-22, 2008

Joe Bolesta Party from Loveland Co and Kevin McDonald's party from Fort Collins CO

June 16, 2008

Preston and Shirley Phillips of Cambridge NE with 44" & 45" Northern or Elsie's as Shirley calls them caught and released this week. It's like someone turned on the Pike switch. I'm tired of looking at so many big Pike so I've included two pictures Shirley took of our woodland wild lady slipper orchids and moss marigolds growing right here at base camp.
June 9, 2008

Slim's Cabins employee Lars Ronning caught and released this 47" beauty yesterday.

We have a winner! Congratulations Brett Quinn of Lincoln NE. That man standing in the boat is none other than Harold Walklin of Watertown SD. Slim's Cabins guest since 1978.

June 5, 2008

A record setting year by the Tessendorf group of Nebraska. 29 Northern Pike weighing more than 10lbs caught and released during their 4 days of fishing. It is believed that many of these fish were caught at or near "the water tower"....according to sources that work the dock area.

Great to see the Kood-A-Bins for a second year. Hope a good time was had by all. We enjoyed your team spirit. Is it true that the unitard will be the team uniform next season?
