Happy New Year and best wishes for the coming year from everyone at Slim's. We hear everyone South of us is having a mild winter thus far. We are having a typical winter, good snow cover and today -32 C.

These three otters came into the bay mid afternoon, it's late into the fall and the water seems syrupy thick. Rolling, splashing, eating little fish, lip smacking and I swear giggling. They played in the bay for about an hour. The dog ran down to the dock and barked at them, but they didn't seem to care. Within minutes of them leaving the bay......ice crystals began forming right in front of our eyes. Within a couple of hours of the ice forming two little muskrats were up on top of the ice playing.

First day fishing today at Slim's. I caught this one today 34" northern in the pita area. Carla Real daughter of Charles Wear.
June 10-13
Here are a few pics from our trip.
A 44.5" pike caught by Barry Smith of Moose Jaw weighing in at 22lbs 14ozs. This was Barry's first trip north fishing and he latched into that one the 2 nd hour of the trip in the white mud. He went back in the lake!
A 12lb pike caught by Barry again. He went back in the lake.
A 14lb 9oz pike caught by Brad Restau of Pine Lake AB. This was also Brad's first trip to the north fishing. He went back in the lake!

Thank you again for squeezing us into Long Bay. Here is a picture of Fred and I with Fred’s fish. He caught his first fish ever on this trip, and the biggest one of the whole trip. We measured this one out to between 40 and 42 inches on the side of the boat. No scale, unfortunately.
This second picture is one I caught. He broke my line 5 minutes earlier and then took the same lure on my very next cast. Found the first lure still in his mouth. Blair Roberts

The weather has been super warm. Fishing has been good. Then up at Scotties Beach this morning this is what they woke to.....white stuff. We didn't have any at the main camp.

Opening weekend. Christina with her 10lb Pike caught and released. Debbie with a nice walleye. They haven't spawned yet, so most were going back so they could drop their eggs.

We are all taking a sigh of relief up here. The snow is all gone, the river is finally opening. Yay!!!!!!! Jim flew down from Kamuchawie where there is still lots of ice, however the Narrows is open....already ahead of last year. He says the river is mostly open from Reed Lake to Island falls. The bays are still frozen, again already ahead of last year. He says we are on target to have the ice out of our bay on the 18th. The plane is now off the ice just in time to put it on floats.
